Noah did what was right by God and obeyed him. Noah was married and had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth. His three sons where married.
God was sad. People had become so cruel and were doing such bad things that he said to Noah, “I will destroy the whole earth. Only you and your family will be saved.”
God told Noah to build a giant ark. It was to be 137 metres long, 21 metres wide and 14 metres high with a 46cm vent at the top. Noah was to make three decks and a door on one side.
God said, “I am going to flood the whole earth to destroy all living things. Only you, your wife, your sons and their wives will be saved.”
God continued, “Bring into the boat two of every living creature, male and female, and seven pairs of the animals which I have approved for eating and sacrifice. Store up enough food for everyone.”
Noah obeyed God and did everything he was told to do.
When it was time, God told Noah and his family, along with all the animals, to enter the boat, and God closed the door behind them
Noah was now 600 years old.
Water began to flood the earth and it rained heavily for 40 days and 40 nights.
The water became deeper and deeper, until even the highest mountains were covered.
Nothing was left alive except those inside the ark.
The water flooded the earth for 150 days.
After this, God made a wind blow and the water began to go down.
The ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
After 40 days, Noah sent out a raven, but it just kept flying around.
Next, he sent out a dove, and it also could not find a place to land.
After another week, he sent the dove out again, and this time it returned with a green olive leaf.
Noah now knew that the water was finally drying up.
After one full year, Noah was 601 years old, and God said, “You and your family may leave the boat. Also, send out all the animals so that they may increase in number throughout the whole earth.”
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and offered a sacrifice.
God blessed Noah and his family and made this promise: “Never again will there be a flood to destroy the whole earth. A sign of this promise will be the rainbow in the sky.”
“Each time a rainbow appears in the sky, remember this promise.”
